Home Microdermabrasion Products: Effective Or Not?

You can now buy microdermabrasion products for home use. Considering the harshness of this treatment in a properly equipped salon, one must ask how good an idea it is to provide this option to home users! Is using home microdermabrasion products the same as going for the full treatment in your local spa? Let’s look at a few such products and see.

There are two main types of microdermabrasion products designed for the home user. The skin peel, which comes with or without chemicals, and the resurfacing tool. These two items provide the majority of the benefits in home microdermabrasion, but there are a myriad of secondary products as well such as creams and lotions, to enhance the home experience.

The first type is the skin peel. This usually is the cheaper of the two microdermabrasion products and is the easiest to use. You simply rub on the cream supplied and let it do its job. While the chemicals used in home peels are not as strong as the ones used in a spa, they do tend to reduce and diminish discoloration and wrinkles. Some peels are actually available chemical-free, using only natural enzymes to cleanse the dead layers of skin.

The resurfacing tool generally comes with several attachments to cleanse, scrub and stimulate new cell growth. This is probably the closest you will come to a full on spa experience without the professional microdermabrasion products available in the spa. This tool is battery operated, so using it is nice and easy, you just pop on the correct attachment (such as the cleansing brush) and move it over the area you wish to treat.

Both of these microdermabrasion products are often used together with others. A toner helps remove excess dirt and oil before you begin the microdermabrasion process, while a soothing cream or gel can be a good way to ease any discomfort afterwards. There are also lotions that help stimulate new cell growth after a treatment, to ensure that fresh new skin quickly replaces the layers that you have cleansed.

The truth of the matter is that microdermabrasion products created for home use are not as powerful as those used in a spa. While they may still produce results, they are not generally as effective as the professionally used treatments. So if you want to save time and money and don’t mind lesser results, home microdermabrasion products are your best bet!
