Skin Peel
Is A Chemical Skin Peel Right For You?
Every day, we are bombarded with images of flawless skin, on television and in magazines. Seeing other people look so good, whether airbrushed or not, tends to make us want to look better than we do and some people turn to more extreme methods. A chemical skin peel is one of the treatments that more and more women are trying, in an attempt to get that perfect Hollywood glow. But before you jump in and make an appointment at your nearest spa, there are some things you should know about peels. The skin peel dates all the way back to Ancient Egyptian times when the Pharaoh’s concubines did what they could to make themselves the most attractive in the harem. Today, our chemicals are a little more sophisticated, but the purpose is the same, to make us more attractive and beautiful. But does a skin peel actually do this? Basically, a skin peel is an acid wash of your face. The acid dissolves the damaged skin (just the outer layers) and is quite effective at removing surface blemishes. However, as you can imagine this sort of treatment can be quite harsh and you can expect to have some pain during and after the procedure. The chemical skin peel is used mainly to even out skin tones and get rid of wrinkles. It is also effective against poor facial texture and can remove all those irritating little bumps and ridges that many of us have on our skin. This procedure is not for everyone. You do need to have a decent budget to be able to afford the $600-900 treatment. It is also not for those with very sensitive skin since the very nature of a skin peel is to irritate the skin into producing a smoother, fresher layer. If you have dark skin, you might want to consider a different sort of skin treatment, since those with light hair and light complexions are the ones who benefit most from chemical skin peels. Apart from skin tone, non-smokers will experience the most benefits from this treatment, since they will have more blood flow to the newly exposed tissue, allowing for rapider healing after the skin peel. Weigh your options carefully before going ahead with a chemical skin peel. You may find another way to improve your skin tone, which is more suited to your personal skin type. |
